Antique maps and prints are admired for the
beauty of the engraving, the richness of the paper’s patina and the
glow of the hand-color. Sometimes, these elements suffer damage in
their travel through the centuries and an accurate, sensitive restoration
is in order.
For 20 years, J.W. Dragon Studio has been restoring and reconstructing
antique color on old maps and prints. We pride ourselves on our
subtle and correct application of historic color using time-honored
techniques. Respect for the engraver’s art is our guiding
principle and our work follows and enhances the engraving as
it was done in the artist’s lifetime. J.W. Dragon Studio
has an extensive research library and visual database for antique
maps and prints from the mid-sixteenth through the nineteenth
century. Together with our training in historic pigments and
technique, we can insure an intelligent and beautiful restoration.
